Welcome to the Junior School

We provide a safe, happy and caring environment where all pupils are encouraged to develop and learn. We believe at this age, it is vital we give students the opportunity to spread their wings, explore and develop a real passion for learning. We foster this through our exceptional subject specific teachers, teaching in subject specific classrooms.

We believe that by providing the right environment, every child can flourish and achieve their potential both academically and socially. We have outstanding facilities to offer our youngsters based within our Junior School. Our pupils also regularly use the facilities we share with the Senior School such as the swimming pool and theatre.

Children can join our Junior School from Year 3 and continue to the completion of Year 6. At this point our Junior School children move to Year 7 in the Senior School without need for an entrance assessment.

I am proud that we offer young people the very best start in life and I look forward to welcoming you to the Hymers family.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to provide a thorough grounding in the core skills which are required throughout education, along with offering pupils a broad range of subjects outside of the norm, which sparks interest and challenge.

All junior pupils are assigned to one of four Houses, which encourages pupils to foster friendships and work as a team. The Houses compete in various activities, encouraging teamwork and cooperation across the different year groups.

Our Junior School is set in a dedicated and purpose-built building with outstanding learning facilities both inside and out.

Within the Junior School our pupils benefit from a dedicated art room, music room, science laboratory, library, and design workshop. These dedicated classrooms support a rich and varied curriculum giving a thorough grounding in the core skills required throughout education, along with offering pupils a broad range of subjects outside of the norm, which spark interest and challenge.

Outside pupils enjoy table tennis tables, a climbing frame, forest school, quiet all-weather play area and dedicated Junior School games fields. These outdoor spaces give ample opportunity for each child to participate in a variety of different sports, catering to all abilities including rugby, netball, football, hockey, cricket and athletics.

The students also use the facilities we share with the Senior School, such as the music rooms, all-weather astro sports pitches, swimming pool and theatre, with galas and outstanding year group productions a regular feature in the school calendar.
